There is a scripture in Ephesians that always challenges me in the area of prayer. It’s Ephesians 6:18 and it says “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” It’s that word “always” that gets me. How do we always pray?

The thing about prayer is that it is not just about talking, but about listening. Always praying looks like being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and in tune enough that we can hear him speak to us even when other things are going on. It’s more of an attitude than an action. When we are focused on the things of God we’re able to see him moving and look for opportunities to be used by him.

When we’re alert to what God is up to we’re able to stay in an attitude of prayer. Take a moment to refocus on God and ask him to help you be sensitive to his Spirit. God wants to take you to a deeper level, you just need to say yes to him.
